Under-16 students at CIC had an amazing time at the Total Care+ event on March 22nd, 2024! This event was all about gaining valuable life skills through workshops, community service, and fun activities!
Workshops by Total Care+ Departments
The Guidance and University Placement Office (UPO) Students explored unique learning styles—visual, auditory, read/write, or kinesthetic. They learned how to harness these styles for academic and personal growth, while reflecting on their interests, values, personality, strengths, and weaknesses for future educational pathways. Medical & Wellness An engaging session on Stress & Anxiety Management allowed students to create their own stress ball or stress bottle. The medical and wellness team explained the purpose of these tools and discussed mental health, stress, wellness, and available support resources. Student Leadership Development (SLD) Students participated in a dynamic Conflict Resolution workshop. Through a team activity involving “levitating the broom” using only their finger and communication skills, students learned the importance of effective communication, listening, and teamwork. This knowledge was then applied to school, relationships, and future career scenarios. Residence The session focused on Social Awareness and Living in Residence. Students explored the benefits of living in a diverse community, navigating differences, and understanding social norms in Canada and the local community. This insight is valuable for their future endeavors, such as university roommates and professional relationships.
Brainstorming Community Service & Fundraiser Ideas
Students engaged in learning about the Ronald McDonald House and its significance. They brainstormed creative ideas for upcoming fundraisers in support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities South Central Ontario (RMHCSCO), fostering a sense of community and philanthropy. RMHCSCO is part of a network of 15 Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada, offering a comforting “home away from home” for families with seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. CIC proudly sponsored RMHCSCO’s Great Room, providing funding from 2019 to 2022. In 2023, our fundraisers raised an impressive CAD 2,935 in support of RMHCSCO’s invaluable services.
Group Dinner & Evening Activities
After the enriching workshops, students gathered for a group dinner in the World Fusion Cafeteria, courtesy of Chartwells. The evening continued with a variety of activities to unwind and have fun:
– Art activities provided by Crock-A-Doodle
– Games in the gym organized by the SLD
– Relaxation and board games in the Living Wall Lounge
To add a sweet touch to the evening, students were treated to refreshing bubble tea, capping off a day of learning, connection, and enjoyment. CIC remains committed to nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped for the challenges and opportunities of the future. The Total Care+ Event was a resounding success, providing students with valuable skills, insights, and memorable experiences that will resonate beyond the event day.
