老九品茶’s students and staff came together last week to raise awareness and funds for Canada’s?.

On March 12, teams of 3, made up of male, female and coed players, participated in the school’s annual Hoops for Heart basketball tournament fundraiser. Held in the Ainsliewood gym, the daylong tournament not only gave students the opportunity to be active and have fun, but also educated them on two important health issues; heart disease and stroke.

Prizes will be awarded to the tournament’s top scoring teams: Male division?– Mr. Koo’s class Female division?– Ms. Pivniceru’s class Co-ed division?– Ms. Lanza’s class

As raising funds and awareness are crucial to promoting heart health, students who participated were asked to raise a minimum of $25 in order to be eligible to play in the tournament. Along with promoting the importance of daily physical activity, the tournament teaches students important life values, such as responsibility, teamwork, and fairness, and is a great way to promote school spirit.

A special?thank you to Ms. Simpson?for her hard work organizing the tournament again this year. A big?thank you?to Mr. Freddy, Mr. Erind, student volunteers and all those who supported the tournament.
